Design Elements

Symbolism
The chestnut leaf is positioned in a "bend sinister," a diagonal line running from the top right to the bottom left of the shield. This stylized representation of a leaf symbolizes the abundance of chestnut trees (Castanea sativa) that are characteristic of the Alto Malcantone region. These trees have held significant historical importance for the area's vegetation.
The coat of arms, and therefore this design, was adopted in 2005. Its adoption was a result of the union of five municipalities, Arosio, Breno, Fescoggia, Mugena, and Vezio.
