Escudo de Oicatá (Colombia) T-Shirt: Design Description
This t-shirt features the official coat of arms of Oicatá, a municipality in the Boyacá department of Colombia, adopted on March 6, 2014. The design is a vibrant and symbolic representation of the region's rich history, culture, and patriotic spirit.
Visual Elements and Symbolism
The shield is divided into three horizontal sections (terciado en franjas). The upper section, known as the "jefe," displays the first doctrinal temple built in the Tunja province, dating back to 1600. The middle section, or "faja," showcases the Cacique and Cacica of Oicatá, the namesakes of the municipality. The upper left corner features the Sun of Sué, depicted as it was painted by an indigenous artist before 1608.
The crest above the shield is a "timbre" formed by three blasons. These include an orange pencil, a parchment scroll with arrows representing significant historical dates (July 20, 1810, and August 10, 1819), and a seven-starred crown. The stars, colored with the spectrum, symbolize important historical figures from Oicatá.
The design is supported by the flags of Colombia and Oicatá, alongside wheat stalks. The colors used carry specific meaning: ocher yellow represents the blending of Chibcha and Spanish heritage, and white signifies the desire for peace within Colombia and worldwide.
The entire composition is a powerful visual statement, conveying the heritage, values, and aspirations of the people of Oicatá.
