Fedele Fischetti, Italian, born Naples, - Drawing - unknown - T-Shirt

An oval brown ink and wash drawing shows two winged youths beside a carved urn and a balustrade, with a heaped basket of grapes set on a garden terrace.

Visual Elements & Composition

The drawing is built in warm sepia wash, with pale cream left open on the figures so they catch the light first. The larger youth, crowned with a wreath of leaves, sits at right with a basket of grapes in his lap, while a smaller winged companion reaches toward a trailing cluster at centre. A large urn on a pedestal, its body covered in relief figures, anchors the left side. A balustrade with a finial rises behind them, and clouds and leafy branches fill the upper edges of the oval.

Meaning & Symbolism

The grapes, wreath and urn point to the Bacchic theme of wine and harvest, a subject often paired with winged figures in eighteenth-century decorative art. The youths are at ease rather than in action, so the scene reads as an allegory of abundance. The sheet is attributed to Fedele Fischetti, a Naples-born artist of the Neapolitan decorative tradition, whose allegorical figures and garden settings were made as studies for finished works. The oval format and balustrade suggest a panel or interior scheme where pastoral figures framed a room.

On the Unisex Heavy Cotton Tee

Across the chest, the oval becomes a framed vignette, with the urn and balustrade rising toward the hem and the winged youths settled near the centre, much as the figures were meant to sit within a painted frame. As you move, the grapes and garden terrace shift into view, giving the wearer a quiet, pastoral scene to carry through the day.
