The Shield

The upper portion, known as the chief, features a golden (or) field emblazoned with a proud black lion passant, walking regally across the surface. This lion is armed and langued (tongue) in red, representing Dunkerque's historic connection to Flanders.
The lower portion, the base, presents a silver (white) field. A striking blue dolphin (couché - lying horizontally) is positioned on this field, complete with red crest and ear details. This dolphin, originally a fish symbolizing the city’s fishing heritage, was later adopted in honor of the Dauphin of France.
Supporter and Accoutrements
