Presidential Standard of Guyana (1992-1997) Hoodie - Design Overview
This hoodie showcases the official Presidential Standard of Guyana as used during the presidency of Cheddi B. Jagan from 1992 to 1997. The design, with proportions of 3:5, is a powerful statement of Guyanese identity and its aspirations.
Design Elements and Symbolism
The field is divided into a series of horizontal stripes, creating a bold and recognizable pattern. The outermost panels at the top and bottom are rendered in a rich gold, symbolizing wealth and prosperity. These gold bands frame the central elements. Flanking the gold, two green stripes, represent the lush, verdant landscapes and fertile lands of Guyana. At the heart of the design, a bold red stripe signifies the nation's energy, courage, and the sacrifices made in its history.
The central emblem is a dramatic illustration of Guyanese national pride. At the center is a majestic Harpy Eagle, its wings dramatically spread, representing strength, freedom, and the nation's reach. Beneath the eagle, or standing over the eagle, are symbols of Guyana's agricultural bounty, including plantains, eddoes, and cassava roots. On either side, a sheaf of rice and a stalk of sugar cane proudly flank the eagle, further emphasizing the importance of agriculture to the nation.
Adding another layer of symbolism, a gear-wheel, composed of twelve teeth, is placed over the chest of the Harpy Eagle. This gear-wheel encapsulates a stylized factory, complete with four chimneys emitting smoke. A rising sun is depicted in the background, adding an element of hope and progress. These elements represent industrial development and a bright future for Guyana.
