This design reproduces the flag of the historic Republic of Tule, a horizontal triband with a black sauwastika at its center.

Visual Elements & Composition

The flag is built from three horizontal bands. A wide yellow stripe runs through the middle, framed above and below by darker orange-brown or red stripes. Yellow takes up the largest share of the field, and the outer bands hold the composition in place. At the center sits a black sauwastika, a counter-clockwise swastika drawn in flat, solid shapes. The stripes and the emblem are the only elements, so the layout reads at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

The sauwastika is a traditional Guna spiritual symbol representing creation and the four cardinal directions. It predates the Nazi swastika and is distinct from it. The flag was proclaimed in February 1925 during the Guna Revolution, when the Guna people of the San Blas Islands declared the Republic of Tule as a statement of sovereignty against Panamanian policies of forced assimilation. The design marks a moment of political resistance and carries the cultural identity of the Guna community into the present.
