Uithoorn Wapen 2020 (Coat of Arms) Hoodie - Design Description
This hoodie proudly displays the official coat of arms of Uithoorn, Netherlands, as updated in 2020 to commemorate the municipality's bicentennial.
Central Design: The Shield
At the heart of the design is the shield, primarily rendered in a vibrant azure blue. Dominating the upper portion is a striking golden horn, meticulously detailed with silver fittings and banded in a bold red. Emerging from the mouth of the horn is a child's bust, presented in natural skin tones.
The lower section of the shield features a wavy, silver base, visually representing the Amstel River, a defining geographical feature of Uithoorn.
Symbol of the Area: The Rose
Within the silver base, a prominent red rose adds a splash of color and significance. This rose is knotted in gold and boasts green pointed sepals, representing the thriving flower cultivation and horticultural traditions of De Kwakel, a village within Uithoorn.
External Adornment: The Crown
Crowning the shield is a golden crown, adorned with three leaves and two pearls. This adds a touch of regal elegance to the overall composition.
Symbolism and Meaning
The design is rich in symbolism. The golden horn, a canting element, directly references the “hoorn” (horn) in “Uithoorn.” The horn also features a child’s bust, which references the original arms that dates back to 1816. The wavy silver base of the shield signifies the Amstel River and the red rose symbolizes the local flower cultivation.
