University of Keele Coat of Arms Hoodie: Design Description
This hoodie showcases the distinguished Coat of Arms of Keele University, a design rich in symbolism and steeped in local history.
The Shield
The central element is the shield, a canvas of gold, representing Staffordshire and symbolizing generosity and excellence. A bold red chevron, also from Staffordshire colours, bisects the shield. Upon this chevron rests an open silver book, a clear emblem of learning and scholarship.
At the base of the shield, a natural-colored scythe is depicted, a nod to the Sneyd family, original owners of the Keele estate. The top portion of the shield, known as the "chief," is a wavy red band, possibly symbolizing local rivers or simply acting as a heraldic difference. Within this chief are three key symbols: the Stafford Knot, representing Stafford; a Fleur-de-Lys, for Burton upon Trent; and a fret, which symbolizes industry, standing in for Stoke-on-Trent. These elements come together to represent the three areas that helped establish the university.
The Crest
Above the shield, the crest features Rodin's iconic statue "Le Penseur" ("The Thinker"), rendered in gold. The statue is placed in front of a laurel wreath, signifying thought, reflection, academic thought and honor.
The Motto
Completing the design is the motto "Thanke God for All," taken from the Sneyd family arms, reinforcing the university's origins and identity.
This hoodie design is a powerful visual representation of Keele University's history, values, and academic spirit.
