University of St Andrews Arms Hoodie
This hoodie features the distinguished Coat of Arms of the University of St Andrews, a symbol of academic excellence and Scottish heritage. The design is a vibrant representation of the university's rich history and values.
The Shield (Arms)
The central element of the design is the shield, meticulously divided by a saltire (an X-shaped cross) into four distinct sections. The saltire is rendered in alternating silver/white (Argent) and blue (Azure), mirroring the Saltire of Scotland and its national colours.
At the top of the shield, within the Argent segment, an open book, shown in its natural colours, symbolizes the pursuit of knowledge and learning, a cornerstone of the university's mission.
In the base (bottom) section, a powerful red lion (Gules) in a rampant pose, represents the Royal Arms of Scotland, reflecting the historical association with King James I and the university's foundation.
The top of the shield, the “chief”, is colored red (Gules). Within this chief, a reversed silver crescent (Argent) takes its place, representing Peter de Luna (Pope Benedict XIII), whose papal bull in 1413 formally established the University.
Flanking the crescent are two gold hollow lozenges (mascles), taken from the arms of Bishop Henry Wardlaw, the founder of the university who granted its original charter.
Full Achievement Design
The full achievement incorporates elements that further enrich the symbolism. Above the shield, the crest includes an apple tree, which is associated with the boar of St Andrews. Two supporters are shown holding the shield on either side: one is St Andrew holding his cross, and the other is a lion.
This hoodie design is a striking emblem of the University of St Andrews, carrying with it a legacy of academic achievement, Scottish heritage, and enduring values.
