University of Wales (Coat of Arms) Hoodie - Design Description
This hoodie showcases the distinguished Coat of Arms of the University of Wales, a powerful symbol of heritage, knowledge, and Welsh identity.
Shield Design
The central element is the shield, composed of a silver/white background (Argent). A horizontal band of dark red-purple (murrey) known as a "fesse" bisects the shield, bearing three golden (Or) medieval lamps. These lamps represent the three founding colleges of the University, acknowledging the institution's historical roots.
Surrounding the shield is a border, also in murrey, adorned with eight golden stars (mullets). The stars symbolize the original components of the University Court, the founding governing body, signifying the collective leadership of the institution.
Crest Imagery
Above the shield, the crest features a winged red dragon (Gules), a potent symbol of Wales. The dragon is depicted standing, its right claw resting upon an open book rendered in its natural color (proper). Inscribed upon the book is the Welsh phrase "Goreu Awen Gwirionedd," meaning "The Best Inspiration is Truth," underscoring the University's commitment to academic inquiry and the pursuit of truth.
Motto
While not a visual element, the motto "Scientia Ingenium Artes" ("Knowledge, Talent, Arts") reflects the ideals of the University, encompassing the broad fields of study: arts, science, and engineering.
