UoY CoA Updated Hoodie Design
This hoodie proudly displays the updated Coat of Arms (CoA) of the University of York, a striking emblem rich in symbolism and historical significance.
Shield Design
The centerpiece of the design is the shield, featuring a deep blue (Azure) background, a color traditionally associated with academic pursuits, loyalty, and wisdom. Dominating the shield is a white chevron, its shape evoking a sense of protection and achievement. This chevron is further embellished with the ermine fur pattern, representing dignity and scholarly prestige. Upon the chevron, three gold books are arranged horizontally, each meticulously rendered with clasps. These books are a direct symbol of learning and scholarship, the clasps and the quantity, perhaps hinting to the academic foundation or the faculties within the university.
Crest and Embellishments
Above the shield, the crest presents a striking visual. A silver (Argent) mural crown, representing the city of York and the University's established status, serves as the base. Rising from the crown are two crossed keys, one gold and one silver, their wards pointing upward and outward. These keys symbolize knowledge, unlocking mysteries, and opening paths to wisdom. A delicate white rose, the iconic emblem of York, surmounts the keys. Its natural colors, with green sepals and appropriate seeds (Proper), connect the university directly to its city heritage.
Overall Design
The overall design is a sophisticated and powerful representation of the University of York's values and identity. The strategic arrangement of colors, shapes, and symbols emphasizes knowledge, heritage, and the pursuit of wisdom. The crest and shield design are a testament to the university's commitment to academic excellence and its deep connection to its historical roots.
