Wien 3 Wappen (Austria) T-Shirt: Design Description
This t-shirt showcases the intricate coat of arms of Vienna's 3rd district, Landstraße. The design is a vibrant representation of the area's rich history, displayed on a tripartite shield, and utilizing the traditional colors of red and white, the colors of Vienna.
Shield Composition
The shield is divided into three distinct sections, each representing a former suburb that now forms part of Landstraße. The artwork is a faithful rendition of the historical coat of arms.
Landstraße Section
The first section, representing Landstraße itself, prominently features Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of the former convent of St. Niklas. He is depicted in traditional form, holding a golden crook, a symbol of his pastoral authority. In his other hand, he clutches a book upon which rest three golden balls. These symbols are directly derived from the historical emblems associated with the saint and the area.
Erdberg Section
The second section pays homage to Erdberg with a striking image. A red strawberry, complete with two leaves and two flowers, takes center stage. This visual represents the area's name, which was mistakenly believed to be derived from the fruit, adding a touch of whimsical historical context to the design.
Weißgerber Section
The final section is dedicated to Weißgerber. Here, two silver goats are depicted leaping gracefully over a bush. This imagery is a direct reference to the tanners' guild, who were significant in the area’s history, and processed animal skins into leather.
Background
The background of the entire shield is divided into red and white fields. These colors reflect the traditional colors of Vienna itself, tying the design firmly to its location.
