Wognum Wapen (Netherlands) Hoodie Design
This hoodie features the striking coat of arms of Wognum, a former municipality in North Holland, Netherlands. The design is a powerful representation of the area's heritage.
Central Elements
The original design prominently displayed a tree, a classic example of a "Westfries boomwapen" or West Frisian tree-arms. The tree, often depicted on a terrace, symbolizes growth, stability, and the connection to the land. This design underwent a transformation, but the original visual concept is central to the area's identity.
Secondary Elements and Symbolism
Initially, the tree was flanked by lions. These heraldic lions, positioned on either side of the tree, represented strength, courage, and power. The 1979 adaptation after the merger retained the lions. The colors of the lions were adjusted to highlight historical ties. The red lion with blue tongue and claws reflects the ties to Holland. In this adaptation, a black lion with a red tongue and claws represents Henegouwen.
To further represent the fusion with Nibbixwoud, three perches (fish) were included from their coat of arms. These fish, with spiky fins and black spines, add another layer of symbolic meaning.
Historical Significance
While the original Wognum coat of arms is no longer officially in use, its design remains a potent emblem. The design is rich in symbolism that represents the area's history.
