WREXHAM Shield (United Kingdom) (Coat of Arms) T-Shirt: Design Description
This t-shirt features the striking Coat of Arms of Wrexham, a design rich in Welsh heritage and local symbolism.
The Shield
The central element is the shield, the focal point of the design. The background, an ermine field, is represented by white with black spots. This traditional heraldic element signifies dignity and high status, evoking a sense of history.
Across the shield, two golden croziers are crossed in an 'X' shape. These represent the area's religious history and pastoral landscape. One crozier symbolizes Valle Crucis Abbey, while the other alludes to the rural nature of Wrexham and its historical connection to the wool industry.
At the top of the shield is the chief, a band with a distinctive zig-zag edge (dancettée). This chief is divided into red and gold sections. Two lions are positioned on this chief, each in the passant guardant pose, where the lion is walking and looking at the viewer. The lions are counterchanged, meaning their colors switch on the different colored background sections. The lions are a nod to the Welsh identity of Wrexham, while the red and gold are Welsh heraldic colors.
The Crest
Above the shield rests the crest, adding another layer of visual interest and meaning. A majestic red dragon, a powerful symbol of Welsh national identity, stands atop a green mound. The dragon rests its claw on a golden shield bearing the symbol of Mars (a circle with an arrow pointing upwards). The Mars symbol represents Wrexham’s industrial and mining heritage.
