Zevenaar Wapen 2018 (Netherlands) Hoodie - Design Description
This hoodie features the official coat of arms of Zevenaar, a design adopted in 2018 to celebrate the merger of the municipalities of Zevenaar and Rijnwaarden.
Design Elements
The artwork replicates the heraldic shield, divided down the center ("per pale"). The left side presents a vibrant red field, emblazoned with a gold "karbonkel"—a striking, eight-pointed star. Centered over the karbonkel is a smaller, gold heart-shaped shield bearing a black, gothic capital "Z."
The right side of the shield showcases a gold background, upon which stands a red fortress or tower, complete with a toll gate.
Symbolism and Meaning
The design tells a story of unity and heritage. The left side, with its karbonkel and "Z," pays homage to the historical coat of arms of the original Zevenaar. The karbonkel itself is derived from the arms of the County of Cleves, a significant part of Zevenaar’s history, and the "Z" is a time-honored symbol from the municipality’s seals.
On the right, the fortress and toll gate represent Rijnwaarden, incorporating its heritage into the new municipal identity. Together, the elements visually merge the two entities into the new Zevenaar, celebrating a shared future built on a rich past.
