Visual Elements & Composition

Narni stood for the endurance of the classical world, and nineteenth-century travellers on the Grand Tour came to see its ancient fabric as a link to Rome. These studies mark his turn from the wilderness scenes of the Hudson River School toward the international subjects that filled his later career.
