Visual Elements & Composition

Ochre paper fills most of the frame, with graphite grey and pale blue-grey appearing only in the marks themselves. Faint, feathery strokes gather into low banks across the upper half of the sheet, thickening toward the left and dissolving toward the right, so the open paper between them does as much work as the drawn cloud. A row of darker marks sits near the centre, and a column of small numerals from 2 to 5 runs beneath, each beside a short handwritten phrase such as "2 lakey red smoke" and "4 Clear." A smudged tonal passage along the bottom margin ties the drawing to the text.
