University of East Anglia Coat of Arms Hoodie Design
A Heraldic Emblem of Heritage and Innovation
This hoodie showcases the distinguished Coat of Arms of the University of East Anglia (UEA), a symbol of academic excellence and regional pride.
The Shield: Foundations of Knowledge
The central element is the shield, a canvas of deep azure (blue). Three ancient golden crowns, representing the sovereignty, martyrdom, and innocence of St Edmund, the early king of the East Angles and patron saint of East Anglia, are prominently displayed. At the top (chief) of the shield, a silver/white castle with three domes rises, mirroring the arms of Norwich, the city that is home to UEA. From each of the castle's domes, a flag of St. George, England's patron saint, proudly flies. The castle's gateway, or port, is depicted in black with a raised golden portcullis, a symbol of openness and accessibility.
Crest and Supporters: Guardians of Learning
Above the shield, the crest features an angel emerging from natural-colored clouds. The angel is robed in silver/white, draped with a blue mantle, and crowned with gold. It holds a naturally colored sword with a gold hilt and pommel in its right hand and an open, golden-edged book in its left, representing knowledge and wisdom. On either side of the shield stand golden lions, each with a blue purse pendant from its neck, reflecting UEA’s first Chancellor, Lord Mackintosh of Halifax, and his association with the National Savings Movement. The lions each hold an ancient crown in their inside paw, reinforcing the theme of East Anglian history.
A Timeless Motto: "Do Different"
Emblazoned on the design, the university's motto, "Do different," encapsulates UEA's commitment to innovation and its forward-thinking approach to education.
