University of Lancaster Shield Hoodie Design
This hoodie features the distinguished Coat of Arms of Lancaster University, a heraldic design rich in history and symbolism.
The Shield: A Visual Story
The central element of the design is the shield itself. The main field is gold, providing a regal backdrop for the other elements. A prominent silver (Argent) wavy fesse, a broad horizontal band, cuts across the shield, adorned with two narrow blue (Azure) wavy barrulets. This represents the River Lune, which flows through Lancaster.
Above the fesse, in the chief (top portion), two vibrant red roses, complete with their green barbs and natural centers, are displayed. These roses pay homage to the House of Lancaster and the county of Lancashire, reflecting their heraldic heritage.
In the base (lower portion) of the shield, an open book, rendered in its natural colours, bound and clasped, signifies learning, knowledge, and scholarship, core values of the university.
The Chief: A Symbol of Authority
Crowning the shield is a red (Gules) chief, the topmost third of the design. A golden (Or) lion passant, walking proudly, is emblazoned across this section. This lion, taken from the arms of the Duchy of Lancaster, is a symbol of authority and represents a connection to the historical and regional identity of the university.
