Visual Elements & Composition

The sheet is built around the urn, which fills the centre of an oval vignette. Its flared bowl carries a band of relief figures, a moulded rim, scrolled handles and foliate garlands at the sides. A figure crowns the lid, reaching upward above a cluster of scrolls, and that vertical line gives the composition its height. Against this, a pyramid-like form rises at left beside trees and a distant hill, while a full tree fills the right edge. The palette is restrained: pale grey-blue and charcoal washes over cream paper, with a few touches of pale rose.
