University of Hertfordshire Coat of Arms Hoodie: Design & Symbolism
This hoodie features the majestic Coat of Arms of the University of Hertfordshire, a vibrant and symbolic representation of its history and values. The design is centered around the full achievement of arms, incorporating the shield, crest, supporters, and motto.
The Shield: Foundations of Knowledge
The shield's background is Purpure (purple), a color signifying wisdom and dignity. Dominating the center is a unique "H" shape formed by a Fess conjoined to two Flaunches Argent (silver), cleverly referencing the university's origins as Hatfield Polytechnic.
Above, in the chief, is the Constellation Perseus, depicted by six golden Mullets (stars). This honors the university's ties to astronomy, science, and computer science. Below, at the base, an Oak Tree couped and fructed Gold (a golden oak tree) represents strength, history, and rootedness, borrowed from the Coat of Arms of the former Hatfield Rural District.
The Crest: Rising to New Heights
Crowning the design is the crest, featuring a Phoenix Sable (black phoenix) rising dramatically from an Astral Crown Or (golden crown). This symbolizes the university's ongoing growth, renewal, and transformation, its "rise from the ashes" of its educational beginnings. The phoenix is in flames, proper (in its natural colors), its beak Gold (golden), and wears a Wreath of Laurel Vert (green laurel wreath), adding further dignity.
The Supporters: Strength and Community
On either side of the shield stand two majestic Harts Gules (red harts). These represent the county of Hertfordshire. Each Hart is adorned with a ring, Annulet embattled on the outer edge Gold enfiled by a Quill Argent (a golden ring with a silver quill), signifying academic knowledge and scholarship, with the pens pointing to the outside of the design, and pendant from a ring from a Riban per fess Purpure and Sable.
The compartment upon which the harts stand showcases Water barry wavy Argent and Azure (silver and blue wavy water), representing local water features, framed by Grassy Mounts Proper (green grassy mounds), a nod to the local land.
