Visual Elements & Composition

Deep maroon fills most of the surface and gives the blue, pink and violet forms their contrast. Meaning & Symbolism

Stacked floral units like these were common in early nineteenth-century decorative schemes, where repeated self-contained forms gave a surface its order.
